Made by Folk
Made by Folk has always been about people. The people that make design and the people that buy it. We all share in an appreciation for beautifully crafted ideas and where they can take us.
The story so far
In 2007 FormFiftyFive was setup by Glenn Garriock, Jack Daly and an ever growing group of designers, illustrators, coders and makers eager to collect and share the best design work they came across, FFF soon became an international showcase of creative work.
A couple of years later in 2011, Daniel Freytag first thought about opening an online print store (previously Editions of 100). As a graphic designer, he was initially interested in creating a place to design outside the confines of the normal client – designer relationship. A design store gave this idea purpose. He was also aware that other designers were keen to get involved and explore a brief-less design existence.
Fast forward to 2018 and Daniel & Glenn (with Help from Lorna & Patrick) decided to bring the two platforms together under the name Made by Folk, creating a place where we present the world’s best creative talents and work with them on exciting ideas and products.
How we find creators to collaborate with
That’s really the best and easiest bit. As creatives we always need to be aware of what’s going on in the industry. Whenever we see something we like, we make a note and check who’s behind the work. Most creatives don’t stop when they get home from work – there’s always a ‘side project’. So when we contact them, most are keen to get involved.
Craft and quality
At Made by Folk we’re obsessed with these two words. Our screen-prints are hand-pulled, our digital prints are individually printed on archival art papers, made to last. Our garments are produced on Fair Wear Foundation, sweatshop free, 100% cotton by the excellent folk at Everpress. Everyone shares our obsession and that’s why we work with them.
